Fred Broadwell leads Sustainable Economies Consulting from his homebase in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.  A leader in the sustainability field since its inception, Mr. Broadwell has over twenty years managerial experience in government, non-profit and private enterprise. 

He has worked extensively in the sustainability field in northern California, serving as a Senior Project Manager for the Materials for the Future Foundation in San Francisco.  Most recently, he was Director of Sustainability for the Self-Help Credit Union / Ventures Fund, one of the largest community development groups in the nation with assets of $1 billion. 

Mr. Broadwell has expertise in strategic planning, business development and finance, non-proft management and development, fundraising, market research and public policy/lobbying.  He has expertise in the fields of recycling, renewable energy, sustainable farming and forestry, and urban design.  He has lectured and been published widely.

Recent clients include The Conservation Fund, Carolina Recycling Association and Southern Forests Network.

Mr. Broadwell holds degrees from Davidson College, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (community economic development and process) and the University of California at Los Angeles (economic development and planning.)  He is an avid kayaker, cyclist and musician.
